Refuting the One Who Opposes the Truth

Question: May Allaah protect you. Are refutations of the people of desires from the methodology of the Prophet (Sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam) or have they been introduced by those who want to separate the people and classify them?
Answer: O my brother, read the Qur'aan - how many refutations are there within it of the polytheists, the hypocrites, and of those who are mistaken. The Qur'aan itself... Allaah refutes these people in many verses (of Qur'aan). The Prophet (Sallallaahu 'alayhi wa sallam), as occurs in his sayings, refutes.
The scholars... The Scholars of the Salaf, refuted. So, it is imperative to refute the one who opposes - imperative! This is because it is from sincerity to Islaam and the Muslims. We are not silent with respect to mistakes, we don't just agree with the people, compromise with them and say that it [refuting] splits up the people. The one who wants to separate because of the truth. let him separate... Let him distance himself from it.
As for the believer, he is joyful because of the truth. He is happy if his mistake is brought to his attention so that he can recant from it.
