Explanation of the Statement, "They Loved Disbelief & the Disbelievers"

"They loved disbelief and the disbelievers" [1]

The Explanation:

From Masaa'il al-Jaahiliyyah: They like disbelief and the disbelievers. As Allaah mentioned that about Banee Israa'eel, that they took the disbelievers as friends. The Most High said:

"You see many of them taking the disbelievers as their Awliyaa' (friends, protectors and helpers)." [Al-Maa'idah : 80]

And Allaah has prohibited taking the disbelievers as friends. Then the Most High said:

"O you who believe! Take not the Jews and the Christians as Awliyaa' (friends, protectors, helpers, etc.), they are but Awliyaa' to one another. And if any amongst you takes them as Awliyaa', then surely he is one of them." [Al-Maa'idah : 51]

Allaah forbade the Muslims from doing that which is similar to what the Jews did from taking the disbelievers as friends and having love for the disbelievers.

"Let not the believers take the disbelievers as Awliyaa' (supporters, helpers, etc.) instead of the believers, and whoever does that will never be helped by Allaah in any way, except if you indeed fear a danger from them." [Aali 'Imraan : 28]

The matter is clear in this. And that (having) enmity towards the disbelievers, disavowment of them and from their religion, becomes obligatory. And al-Waraa' wal-Baraa' (loyalty and disavowment) are from the greatest of obligations in Islaam.
